제87조 운전면허증의 갱신과 정기 적성검사

운전면허를 받은 사람은 다음 각 호의 구분에 따른 기간 이내에 대통령령으로 정하는 바에 따라 시ㆍ도경찰청장으로부터 운전면허증을 갱신하여 발급받아야 한다. <개정 2016.5.29, 2018.3.27, 2020.12.22, 2025.8.14>
1. 최초의 운전면허증 갱신기간은 제83조제1항 또는 제2항에 따른 운전면허시험에 합격한 날부터 기산하여 10년(운전면허시험 합격일에 65세 이상 75세 미만인 사람은 5년, 75세 이상인 사람은 3년, 한쪽 눈만 보지 못하는 사람으로서 제1종 운전면허 중 보통면허를 취득한 사람은 3년)이 되는 날이 속하는 해의 생일 전후 각각 6개월 이내
2. 제1호 외의 운전면허증 갱신기간은 직전의 운전면허증 갱신일부터 기산하여 매 10년(직전의 운전면허증 갱신일에 65세 이상 75세 미만인 사람은 5년, 75세 이상인 사람은 3년, 한쪽 눈만 보지 못하는 사람으로서 제1종 운전면허 중 보통면허를 취득한 사람은 3년)이 되는 날이 속하는 해의 생일 전후 각각 6개월 이내
A person who has obtained a driver's license shall renew and be issued the driver's license by the Provincial Police Agency Commissioner within the period determined by Presidential Decree, according to the classifications in the following subparagraphs. <Amended by Act No. 13635, May 29, 2016, Act No. 15470, Mar. 27, 2018, Act No. 17859, Dec. 22, 2020, Act No. 18441, Aug. 14, 2025> 1. The renewal period for the first driver's license shall be within 6 months before and after the birthday in the year when 10 years (3 years for a person who is 75 years or older at the time of passing the driver's license examination, 5 years for a person who is 65 years or older but less than 75 years at the time of passing the driver's license examination, and 3 years for a person who cannot see with one eye and has obtained a Class 1 ordinary driver's license) from the date of passing the driver's license examination under Article 83 (1) or (2) elapses. 2. The renewal period for driver's licenses other than that in subparagraph 1 shall be within 6 months before and after the birthday in the year when 10 years (3 years for a person who is 75 years or older at the time of renewing the previous driver's license, 5 years for a person who is 65 years or older but less than 75 years at the time of renewing the previous driver's license, and 3 years for a person who cannot see with one eye and has obtained a Class 1 ordinary driver's license) from the date of renewing the previous driver's license elapses.
다음 각 호의 어느 하나에 해당하는 사람은 제1항에 따른 운전면허증 갱신기간에 대통령령으로 정하는 바에 따라 한국도로교통공단이 실시하는 정기(定期) 적성검사(適性檢査)를 받아야 한다. <개정 2024.1.30>
1. 제1종 운전면허를 받은 사람
2. 제2종 운전면허를 받은 사람 중 운전면허증 갱신기간에 70세 이상인 사람
A person falling under any of the following subparagraphs shall undergo a periodic aptitude test conducted by the Road Traffic Authority, as prescribed by Presidential Decree, within the renewal period of the driver's license under paragraph (1). <Amended by Act No. 19200, Jan. 30, 2024> 1. A person who has obtained a Class 1 driver's license. 2. A person who has obtained a Class 2 driver's license and is 70 years or older during the renewal period of the driver's license.
다음 각 호에 해당하는 사람은 운전면허증을 갱신하여 받을 수 없다. <개정 2018.3.27>
1. 제73조제5항에 따른 교통안전교육을 받지 아니한 사람
2. 제2항에 따른 정기 적성검사를 받지 아니하거나 이에 합격하지 못한 사람
A person falling under any of the following subparagraphs shall not be able to renew and receive a driver's license. <Amended by Act No. 15470, Mar. 27, 2018> 1. A person who has not received traffic safety education under Article 73 (5). 2. A person who has not undergone or failed to pass the periodic aptitude test under paragraph (2).
제1항 또는 제2항에 따라 운전면허증을 갱신하여 발급받거나 정기 적성검사를 받아야 하는 사람이 해외여행 또는 군 복무 등 대통령령으로 정하는 사유로 그 기간 이내에 운전면허증을 갱신하여 발급받거나 정기 적성검사를 받을 수 없는 때에는 대통령령으로 정하는 바에 따라 이를 미리 받거나 그 연기를 받을 수 있다.
When a person who is required to renew and be issued a driver's license or undergo a periodic aptitude test under paragraph (1) or (2) cannot do so within the period due to reasons such as traveling abroad or military service, as prescribed by Presidential Decree, they may undergo it in advance or postpone it, as prescribed by Presidential Decree.
