Article 10 (Obligation of Those Who Acquire Nationality to Renounce Foreign Nationality)

Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraph ①, a person who falls under any of the following subparagraphs shall, within one year from the date of acquiring Korean nationality, renounce his/her foreign nationality or make an oath to the Minister of Justice that he/she will not exercise his/her foreign nationality in Korea, in accordance with the methods determined by the Minister of Justice. <Newly Inserted by Act No. 10315, May 4, 2010> 1. A person who falls under any of the grounds specified in Article 6 (2) 1 or 2, or Article 7 (1) 2 or 3, at the time of receiving permission for naturalization. 2. A person who has received permission for nationality restoration under Article 9 and is recognized by the Minister of Justice as falling under Article 7 (1) 2 or 3. 3. A person who was adopted by a foreigner before reaching the age of majority under the Civil Act of Korea, acquired foreign nationality, has continuously resided in a foreign country, and has received permission for nationality restoration under Article 9. 4. A person who has resided in a foreign country, entered Korea after reaching the age of 65 for the purpose of permanent residence, and has received permission for nationality restoration under Article 9. 5. A person who finds it difficult to fulfill the provisions of paragraph ① due to foreign laws and systems, despite his/her intention, as prescribed by Presidential Decree.
