Article 91 (Exceptions to Payment of Pension Insurance Premiums)

Where a person liable for payment, as a workplace subscriber or a regional subscriber, is unable to pay pension insurance premiums due to any of the following reasons, they may be exempted from paying pension insurance premiums for the period during which such reasons continue, as prescribed by Presidential Decree. <Amended on Dec. 21, 2007> 1. During suspension of business, unemployment, or leave of absence 2. While performing military service obligations under Article 3 of the Military Service Act 3. While enrolled in a school under Article 2 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act or Article 2 of the Higher Education Act 4. While being confined in a correctional facility pursuant to Article 11 of the Act on the Execution of Sentences and the Treatment of Correctional Inmates 5. While being confined in a protective custody facility under the former Social Protection Act or a treatment custody facility under the Act on Treatment Custody 6. While being missing for less than one year. In this case, the criteria and methods for recognizing missing persons shall be prescribed by Presidential Decree. 7. In cases prescribed by Presidential Decree where income has decreased due to disaster or accident, or where the person is not engaged in any income-generating work.
